Catching up…

Ten weeks ago, Simplify debuted in the Apple App Store. Since then, we’ve released a few updates, worked through growing pains, and been fortunate to read some very nice things about our application. Last month, PC Mag called it "essential for music fanatics with iPhones" and, this month, we were profiled in Fortune.

A number of Mac and iPhone-focused blogs like MacLife have been kind enough to review us. We earned 5 M’s from iPhone Matters, 5 thumbs up from iReview iPhoneApps, and 9 stars from both HawtApps and Cocoa Touch Apps. A few more:

What’s On iPhone – That’s not Simple – that’s Amazing!
The iPhone Apps Blog – The best iPhone app so far
Maciverse – Simplify Media lives up to the hype
App Alert – Simplify Media is my favorite app I’ve used so far
iPhone3GHacked – worth a spot on your iPhone? Absolutely
Paste Magazine – This is by far the coolest app I’ve downloaded
iPhone Know How – Just remember one thing. Before you accept friend requests, make sure you go and delete your old Backstreet Boys albums

More suprising to us still are the video reviews. Some examples:

MobiRiot (video link) – MobiStars: 10/10: Must have for your iPhone
AppVee (video link) – Simplify Media is a must have app
iPhoneAppy (video link) – A fantastic application! Really easy to use
T4 Show (video link) – The best part is that it’s not just for Mac, it’s for PC and Linux

and there are others from iPhoneNuts, ehPhone.ca, L2Raykage, Scottio200, Robert and TheiPhoneGuru.

While we focused on improving the product we neglected to show our gratitude, so we’d like to correct that. Thank you for introducing us to your friends, and thank you for helping others to get started (in Spanish, German and Linux too). Thank you for your App Store reviews (more than 1000 so far), and thank you for continuing to spread the word. We really appreciate the support!

ronijean – I cannot sing Simplify Media’s praises enough
JeaNie – so amazing, it’s going to leave you speechless
Brendan – Quite apart from the mind-blowing technical feat here… the sound came through with, as far as I could tell, original quality.
grammaticaster – I have 40 GBs of music at home, and now I can listen to every track whether I’m at the coffee house or the office or wherever. Superuseful!
Jonathan – Wow!!!
Russell – You Gotta Try This!
Derek – This beauty allows you to access your home iTunes library when you’re on the go.
Craig – while driving around town I was listening to music streaming from my iTunes music library located at home over my car radio
Stephen – I’m streaming ~90GB of music on my iPhone from my Mac at home via my company’s public WiFi
Jason – I am always looking for ways to get all my music (work, laptop, arts drive) all in one place. Well, now I have that freedom.
Phil’s Tech Blog – The more I played with it, the more I liked it
Sarah – I look forward to inviting more friends to my contact list and adding new artists and genres to my repertoire
Shannon – All I can say is amazing!
Jon – I really recommend you check this service out
Ryan – Download it, install it, marvel
Mike – Simplify Media is Simplify Devine
Wayne – Simplify Media Full of Win
Mandi – This sweet little program opens up a portal of happiness between your itunes music library and the libraries of selected friends.

From around the world:

A final note: as planned, we are starting to charge in the App Store. The price is $3.99 in the US and Canada, €2,99 for the EU, £2.39 in the UK and ¥450 for Japan. This only applies to first-time downloads, so existing iPhone app users do not need to pay. The Windows, Mac and Linux desktop versions remain free for everyone.

We’ll stay hard at work on bug fixes and new features. So, if you encounter problems, please try Troubleshooting — and hit Report Issue or email us at support at simplify media if that doesn’t help.

Seriously, well done. There were definitely some growing pains in there, but along with the Last.fm app, I can’t imagine my iPhone without Simplify.

I greatly appreciated getting the app for free, is there any way I could throw a few dollars your way to say “thanks?”

Thanks for the shout-out. This is an incredible application, and I cannot wait to see how it evolves. It is heartwarming to know that the folks behind it are apparently class-acts as well.

    All the best.

I participate now since the iphone version 2 and the program becomes better with each update. but unfortunately there are still two parts which I miss. i hope there is a possibility to change this ;-) )

    1. if i looking for musik under genre e.g pop, the next level i see are the cd titels of all interpreters and not like on the ipod-iphone, first the interpret name and then a new level for cd´s and another new level for the titels. this would really nice to find cds much faster.

    2. there are always little brakes between songs which are recorded seamless.

but nevertheless thanks for this great program ;-) ))

I am sure that most people nowaday has a big music collection, and some of the songs aren’t that good so in order to reclaim disk space and for easier management, is it possible that you can add a feature to mark the song to be deleted later?

That is have the Simplify Media desktop client bookmark the song to a file for later verfication or modification, after that the user can then manually have the client delete the songs from the file.

Just imagine how much disk space could be reclaim from these unwanted songs!

    Thanks

Love your product, but it badly needs a search function. Scrolling through all my MP3’s takes a lot of time and sometimes I have troubel finding things. A search fucntion like iTunes has would make this app so much better. Also if I’m listening to a long MP3, like a radio show, audio book, etc, I can’t skip through it. Can we have a way to slide the time line status bar? Also a remember play back position feature would be useful.

Really looking forward to a manual update option. If your music drive is detached or you have encrypted drives which are mounted manually the constant rescanning can be a major pain. Really hoping to see this feature added soon!

Great app! As other users here, I also hope a “manual update” function will be added to avoid unneccairy re-indexing of my files.

Also hope Windows Media Player integration and a port to Windows Mobile will be added! (why only iPhone?)

    Keep up the good work!

@Paul – I am having a new issue with my SM. After running flawlessly for several weeks, it crashed on my Mac [OS 10.5.5] and would cause my entire machine to lock up and crash. I tried to trash the app from the Apps folder and download a new fresh copy but when I try to launch it, it simply crashes the machine again. Ideas? I miss my SM!!

I went from enjoying this cool app to giving up on it. Yesterday it just decided to stop communicating w/the server I guess [Error Code 10], though I am not running any antivirus on my Mac and it never had any issues for the past four weeks. I have looked at my network settings and nothing has changed. My ISP is not blocking anything so I am at a loss as to what’s not allowing it to communicate. Bummer. I was really enjoying SM and was even thinking of getting an iTouch just because of this little app.

Any thoughts, ideas would be great.

    Thanks,

Thanks guys for a great app.

For the next iPhone version it would be fantastic to have the ability of being interrupted by a phone call, take it and automatically returning to Simplify and start the song that was interrupted.
I thought this was not possible for non-Apple apps but today’s Pandora update has it and works flawlessly. It really would be icing on the cake and make using Simplify in the car much safer. No more browsing directories after taking a call…

I love this app but I don’t understand why it doesn’t work through a proxy. This is the only app in the world that doesn’t work through a proxy – what makes SM different? Speaking for those of us behind corporate firewalls, this feature is easily my No. 1 request, and really I consider it a bug.
But I love this app! It’s mindblowing! It just needs to work behind a proxy!
