Paul thank you so much for the heads up, and for this great application. I have downloaded the iphone app, and have it installed and running.

It’s a great interface on the iphone, and very easy to use, and makes accessing my itunes music library which is over 130 gig not only possible but practical, now i can access it all from my 16 gig iphone.

The album artwork displays even when its not in my itunes, lyrics, bio’s all very impressive.

One feature I would love to see added is the ability to run the iphone app in the background so I can continue to listen to music while accessing other functions on my iphone, in the same way I can when using the ipod functions of the iphone.

    Again thank you very much.

    Colin.

Just downloaded the final version, works great ! I am so happy this is available on the iPhone. I considered buying an iPhone when I learned that Simplify Media would be available for it. In the past, I made a similar system for myself involving complicated things like Python scripts, ASX/M3U playlists and an http server. While the system worked, it was nowhere as easy as Simplify Media, with the added bonus that I can stream music from my friends !

Thanks a lot for making a great product that does exactly what I need it to do !

I’ve been waiting for this app for quite a while now! Glad to see it’s finally working as promised (which seems to be rare on the app store). My only gripe is that with a library of over 10k songs, and playlists of hundreds, it takes forever to get to the bottom of a list. Some sort of “contacts app” like search is completely necessary, as well as a scroll bar in replacement of the “skip to letter A-Z” would be very helpful to quickly navigate large lists.

Is it a dirty little secret that SimplifyMedia only streams tunes in 160kbps?

I understand it from a bandwidth perspective but most of my iTunes library is Apple Lossless and they vary from 800-1,000kbps so this is essentially lossy streaming.

    Anyone know for sure?

@kevin, compression is adaptive. it is not possible to deliver a lossless file up a typiccal dsl pipe and down via GRPS/EDGE. what we try to do is deliver the best sound under the circumstances.

Just installed the server component on a Mac Pro with OS X Server 10.5.2 without glitch, sharing my entire iTunes “losseless’ library which is actually located on a “networked” NAS drive. Downloaded the iPhone version from the App Store. Run immediatey over 3G also without a glitch. The quality is amazing and not one skip. You guys are great!

    This is THE ‘killer’ App!

May I suggest one option: allow the selection on when to “rescan”. Right now it seems to keep wanting to rescan continuously, (I see the “scanning libraries… come up way to often), and when it is scanning the iPhone client is back to “connecting to libraries…”

I would want to have it scan daily or weekly, for example.

i do have to wonder, however, as a realist…
i suppose it;s possible that ATT could say that the ability to stream content from home is a violation of services, and put the nix on this app. though that brings up the issue of pandora, and why that seems to be ok to do.

im REALLY crossing my fingers that this program is deemed ok by att and that the great minds over at SM continue their great support.

    @SMuser,
do try to remain positive, and have confidence in the people at SM. they are offering a wonderful tool here, and im sure are doing their best to provide top notch service for its users.
i was a lucky free downloader, so im certainly not going to complain about something i was able to grab for free. :)

let;s hope for the best, people.

    SMuser said,

    @SkullShank

Makes me wonder about the Apple app-approval process…i would think they might allow AT&T to review such apps and get the approval before uploading and charging. Seems kinda backwards if they (Apple) approve, posts & charges only to be pulled back at the advisement of AT&T. But, I guess anything is possible!

I agree about the great tool SM has created. I can’t believe how much I was anticipating downloading this….you’d think Hannah Montana was going to be doing a free concert in my backyard!

  52. 52

    SkullShank said,

    August 15, 2008 @ 8:51 am

lol…not a hannah fan, but i understand the sentiment. ;)

regarding the approval process, “tether” is a good example of this…apple approved and offered a program called tether (i think) that allowed users to use the iphone as a modem for a laptop.
ATT decided that this was against policy, as the ability to tether was a service that ATT offered as an additional service with a monthly fee. so they pulled it. people had already been using it.

hopefully this is more a server issue than an approval issue.

orb is another option if this doesnt pan out, but requires a jailbreak, and i just dont want to do that to my device.

I assume (hope?) that the SimplifyMedia people are following these comments, so wanted to give a quick update here again – my libraries have re-appeared in my iTunes and the Simplify dock icon now says “Connected,” but it still won’t play any of my music from my other computers (when I click on a song in iTunes it says “Opening URL/Connecting” and then stops), and the iPhone app still sits at “connecting to libraries…” forever.

I am now listening on my iPhone to a podcast of Scott Bourne’s Apple Phone Show which is streaming from my iMac, which is downstairs. I just switched to shuffle an album of Christian music. It buffered for about 3 seconds, and then started to play. Then five seconds later, the album art displayed.
I have shutoff my wireless, so I’m doing this over Edge and it sounds great.
I don’t know what changed, but I did accidentally shut down Simplify Media on my iMac, which I was controlling from my MacBook via Screen Sharing. When I rebooted it, the started the app on the phone, my music list appeared.

I’m quite grateful, and will now delete all of the music from my iPhone to free up space for cool apps like this one.

I’m having an issue where SimplifyMedia isn’t picking up all my tracks. For instance, I have a good portion of The Complete Led Zeppelin, all purchased from Amazon in DRM-free MP3 format. SimpifyMedia just doesn’t catalog them all. There are probably others also, but that’s the first one I’ve noticed. What could be causing a problem like that?

I am with the majority here when voicing my excitement of this earth-shattering program.
I wish the staff at Simplify Media the best of luck in continuing to change how we listen to music now and into the future.
I understand that it’s a difficult problem to get past but I would hope that the lousy quality issue can be dealt with.
Also, would it be possible to group compilations together the way iTunes does?
Keeping “The” such as “The Shaggs” out of the artists alphabetical list would also be helpful.
One more, being able to view album artwork from our music files would be wonderful for people who have a lot of more obscure music and compilations that are not detected.
Thanks for such a great app, especially for the iPhone, and lets hope you get hired by Apple to make this thing even more huge!
