Leopard

11/1 update: Problem solved! We are still testing a larger release with a few other bug fixes, support for Apple Lossless files, and Winamp player integration. In the meantime, if you are having trouble with Leopard, you should download build 893.

10/31 update: Thanks to Matt, Adam, Tim, Seth, James and Vidur, we’ve found a problem running on Leopard. Unfortunately for us, it relates to a change not in the pre-release versions (when we could have addressed it with less urgency). I offer our apologies to everyone who is experiencing difficulty and our thanks for your patience as we work on the solution. We hope to release an update soon with a fix and a surprise new feature.

The official release of Leopard is now just hours away, so this seems like a good time to tell you that Simplify Media is fully Leopard compatible. Current users who installed our last update (build 875) and newer users who have downloaded Simplify Media from our website (likely build 880) will have a seamless transition to OS 10.5.

If you pre-ordered Leopard, you probably have your copy already. If you are still deciding when to upgrade, here are a few resources that may help you make up your mind:

and Apple, not surprisingly, hosts a guided tour.

You have tried Simplify Media with Leopard right? I am getting very strange “Simplify Media quit unexpectedly” on my Leopard-equipped G5. I’m connecting to that Library from another G5 running Tiger. It won’t even play a full song. Just a few seconds, then skip to the next. And I do have the latest versions…

    Hmm.

Tim, thanks for the comment and our apologies for the problem. I have a Leopard machine on my desk I have been using to test pre-release versions and the upgrade to the released GM Leopard went very smoothly as well, so yes, we have tried it. Can you select Report Issue to send us your logs? Hopefully we can find and fix whatever is causing your error. We really appreciate the help.

I am having similar problems..although I don’t know if they are leopard related (it did seem to coincide with the upgrade however.)

I have a tiger-equipped PowerMac G5 at work that i use to connect to my Leopard Mac Pro at home. It will sometimes work perfectly, but most often it will play a minute or two of a song, and then disconnect. not just skip to the next song, but will actually disconnect from the shared library in itunes..it will disappear from the shared list, and will disappear from the media list in simplifymedia. if i wait about 5 minutes, it will show up again. copy, paste, repeat.

It used to work beautifully too..I am not sure what has changed..I’ve insured that I have plenty of bandwidth available at home (its on 5mbps cable) and bandwidth is definitely not an issue at work.

    any ideas?

Seth, thanks. This is helpful. Perhaps there is a conflict with an application we missed? We did receive another email about this, so although the problem seems somewhat rare, its impact is serious and tracking it down is our top priority. If you can send us a Report Issue, that would provide us with more clues.

Guys, thanks again. We’ve figured out how to reproduce the error, although we are struggling to understand what changed in the final build of Leopard. (I wish Apple gave developers release notes.) As soon as we have more information I’ll post an update.

A final Leopard note thanks to Pablo. If you upgrade to Leopard “in place” (as opposed to a clean install), you will need to re-install Simplify Media. I’m not sure what happens to our app during the upgrade, but use Spotlight to search for Simplify Media relatated files (the search “Simplify” gets them all) and drag them to the trash.
